SOMETHING ABOUT THE PITUITARY GALND - •LOCATION-It is a pea sized endocrine gland at the base of the brain behind the bridge of the nose and directly below the hypothalamus. •It sits in an indent in the sphenoid bone called the Sella turcica. •It is one of the 8 endocrine glands present in our body. •The Pituitary gland is called the master gland in the body because it not only produces it only hormones but it also tells other glands to produce hormones. STRUCTURE- The Pituitary gland is divided into two main sections- >Adenohypophysis-also called anterior lobe It is connected to the hypothalamus by small blood vessels. The hypothalamus connects with the anterior lobe via hormones. The main hormones produced by this lobe are - 》ACTH-Adrenocorticotropic hormone,which stimulates the production of cortisol. 》LH-Luteinizing hormone,stimulates ovulation in women and testosterone production in men. 》FSH-Follicle stimulating hormone,promotes sperm production and ovar...
